Tamron Merdeka Outing – Captured: Rakyat. Merdeka. Moments

Hey everyone!

Last weekend on 31 August 2025, I had the chance to join the Tamron Merdeka Outing with the theme “Captured: Rakyat. Merdeka. Moments”. The event was organized by Tamron Malaysia in collaboration with Futuromic, and it was such a fun way to celebrate Merdeka with fellow photographers.

One of the best parts? I got to test out the Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD lens for Fujifilm X-mount during the outing. Since I know many of us are always curious about how lenses actually perform in real shooting conditions, I thought I’d share my quick thoughts and experience here.

  • Handling: Comfortable size and weight, easy to carry around for a few hours. The zoom ring feels smooth, and it balances well on a Fujifilm body.

  • Autofocus: Fast and silent. It tracked moving people without much issue, even in busy scenes.

  • Image Quality: Sharp across the zoom range, with nice colors and details. The constant f/2.8 was handy for both wide crowd shots and closer portraits.

  • VC (Vibration Compensation): A real bonus – helped keep handheld shots steady.

The outing was such a great chance to test this lens in a real-world, high-energy environment. For anyone using Fujifilm X-mount who wants a versatile walkaround lens with a constant f/2.8 aperture, this is a strong contender. It covers pretty much everything from street photography to portraits, and even a bit of low-light shooting, without making you feel like you’re carrying a heavy brick around.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the outing – I think they capture the lens’s character better than words ever could. All images are straight out of camera (SOOC), with only minor exposure adjustments and slight cropping.

What about you guys – has anyone else tried the Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 yet? Would love to hear your experiences, especially in different shooting situations like travel or events.

Thank you.
